C.F. Martin & Co. D-35 Price Guide

The Martin D-35 was introduced in 1965 as a creative solution to declining availability of wide rosewood planks needed for the traditional two-piece D-28 back. The D-35 features a distinctive three-piece back using narrower rosewood strips, which actually produces a slightly different tonal character — many players prefer its slightly more complex overtones. The D-35 became a staple of country and singer-songwriter recordings through the 1970s.

📖 Buyer's Guide

Early D-35s (1965-1969) with Brazilian rosewood are extremely valuable and should be verified carefully. Indian rosewood models from 1970 onward are excellent players. The three-piece back is structurally sound and not a compromise — in fact, it can be more stable. Look for the same issues as any Martin: neck reset, top cracks, and bridge plate condition.
