C.F. Martin & Co. D-28 Price Guide
The Martin D-28 is the definitive flat-top acoustic guitar. Introduced in 1931, the dreadnought body size and spruce-over-rosewood construction set the template for acoustic guitars worldwide. Pre-war D-28s (pre-1946) with scalloped bracing are among the most sought-after acoustic instruments in existence.
Produced: 1931–present
📖 Buyer's Guide
Pre-war Martin D-28s command massive premiums — expect six figures for excellent examples. Post-war non-scalloped bracing D-28s from 1947-1969 are excellent players. Look for cracks in the top and back, repaired headstocks, and replaced tuners. Brazilian rosewood (pre-1970) vs. Indian rosewood significantly affects value.
