D-40
acoustic1963–present
The Guild D-40 is Guild's mid-range dreadnought, featuring mahogany back and sides with a spruce top — the same tonal recipe as the Martin D-18 but with Guild's own voice. Introduced in the early 1960s, the D-40 became a workhorse for folk and country players who wanted Guild's quality at a lower price point than the rosewood D-55. Hoboken and early Westerly-era examples are the most collectible.
