Guild D-40 Price Guide

The Guild D-40 is Guild's mid-range dreadnought, featuring mahogany back and sides with a spruce top — the same tonal recipe as the Martin D-18 but with Guild's own voice. Introduced in the early 1960s, the D-40 became a workhorse for folk and country players who wanted Guild's quality at a lower price point than the rosewood D-55. Hoboken and early Westerly-era examples are the most collectible.

Produced: 1963present

📖 Buyer's Guide

Hoboken-era Guild D-40s (1963-1968) are particularly sought after. Early Westerly production (1969-1975) is also excellent. The mahogany construction makes these extremely durable and resistant to humidity problems. Look for neck resets (especially on older examples), replaced tuners, and bridge plate condition. Outstanding value for the quality of instrument.
