Pickups & Electronics

Two Patent Number humbuckers. The Les Paul name has been removed — these are simply 'Gibson SG Standard.'

What Changed in 1963

The SG was now established as its own model, not a Les Paul variant. Production increased significantly. Maestro Vibrola was a popular option. These are quintessential SG Standards.

Collector's Notes

Maestro Vibrola examples are correct and increasingly collected. Stop-tail versions may be more desirable to players. The SG is structurally weaker than the Les Paul — inspect neck joint, headstock, and body edges carefully.
